Obituary of Doris Dee Kirk

LITTLE FALLS - Doris Dee (Lansing) Kirk, born on July 18, 1926 died on July 10, 2014. She passed away peacefully at Alpine Nursing Home in Little Falls. After graduating Columbia High School in 1944, Doris studied at the Rochester School of Photography. She took a job working with Marjorie Kirk in an Albany photography studio tinting photographs. It was here that she was introduced to her future husband, James L. Kirk, a recent World War II veteran. The couple married on December 21, 1946. Mrs. Kirk moved to Altamont in 1975 and was very active in the Altamont community for 25 years. She and her husband Jim were members of St John's Lutheran Church on Maple Avenue. Doris was an accomplished oil painter, artist, craftsperson, and exemplary quilter, and she was well known in her Delmar quilt group (QUILT). She taught quilting classes at the Voorheesville Library, and always had time to meet with quilting friends to share ideas. Formerly of Altamont, she was predeceased by her loving husband James Lysaght Kirk (2001) of Altamont; her identical twin sister, Doloris May Weingartner (2010) of Atlanta, Ga., and her brother Jack Lansing of East Greenbush (2012). Mrs. Kirk leaves behind four children and their spouses, Donna DeCarlo (Lewis) of Albany, Richard Kirk (Deborah) of Spencer, Mass., Carol O'Connor (Frank) of Guilderland, and James R. Kirk (Kerry) of Midlothian, Va., as well as 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Doris was the daughter of Russell and D'Esta (Bull) Lansing of Ohio and as a child moved with her family to East Greenbush. Mrs. Kirk's family will hold a private memorial service.
