Obituary of Jay Herringshaw

DANUBE – Jay Herringshaw, 56 of Lower Paradise Road, Little Falls passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 25, 2014 at Little Falls Hospital after being stricken at home. He was born on January 15, 1958 in Little Falls the son of Katherine (Adamek) Herringshaw of Little Falls and the late Frederick V. Herringshaw. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School class of 1976. After graduation he worked on the family farm, Friendly Acres Farm in the Town of Danube. Where he was an accomplished herdsman raising registered Holsteins that received many awards. He continued to work on the farm until retiring several years ago due to ill health. Mr. Herringshaw attended the Newville Union Church Sunday School for many years and was an active member of the 4H Club. An avid bird enthusiast he was especially fond of his Macaws that he raised and cared for, but he also enjoyed raising many different kinds of pet birds and animals. He is survived by his mother; Katherine, his son; Jay G. Herringshaw and his fiancé Michelle Grant, Ilion, his daughter; Courtney L. Herringshaw and her fiance Jonathan Webster, Ilion, his sister; Katherine M. Congdon and her husband O.J., Johnstown, his brothers; Frederick P. Herringshaw and his wife Mary Lee and James D. Herringshaw, and his wife Linda both of Little Falls, his beloved grandchildren; Daimien, Alexis, Kalib, Jayden, Xander, Hunter, Katherine and Destiny, his aunts; Susan Maksymicz, Penfield, NY and Martha Herringshaw, Johnstown, his former wife; Patricia Feeney, Mohawk and her mother Mary Feeney, Little Falls, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his father Frederick V. Herringshaw on July 7, 2003 and by his life partner Robert C. Johnson, II on July 23, 2013. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY with the Rev. Donald L. Dixon, Little Falls officiating. Interment will follow at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 9-10 am and to attend the funeral services to follow. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Herringshaw be considered to the Herkimer County Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
