Obituary of David W Shapiro

LITTLE FALLS – David W. Shapiro, 77 of Little Falls passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the home of his daughter Jill Gies in the Town of Minden. He was born on October 8, 1936 in Fallsburg, NY the son of the late Max and Vera (Warren) Shapiro. He began high school in Indianapolis, IN and graduated from the New York Military Academy High School. He was united in marriage to his wife of 55 years the former Sherrie L. Smith on August 2, 1959 in Indianapolis, IN. Mr. Shapiro was a veteran of the US Army. Entering the service on July 3, 1956. He was honorably discharged on May 21, 1958 as a Specialist Fourth Class. He was a member of the American Locksmith Association as well as the AMAC Senior Citizens Association. Mr. Shapiro and his wife resided in Hollywood, Florida for 40 years. He was the owner and operator of the Sharpening Shop – Locksmith Store in Hollywood, FL and later was employed by the Sears Co., in both Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale. The couple relocated to Little Falls to be closer to their family. His family, friends and his love for his Savior Jesus Christ were the priorities of his life. David was a kind and considerate person always willing to lend an ear to anyone especially a fellow veteran. He was quick to smile and encouraged others to find something good to smile about as well. He loved spending time with his grandchildren tinkering with his large model train setup, watching the Indy 500, every Miami Dolphin game and talking with the collectors at antique car shows. He is survived by his wife; Sherrie, his daughters; Cindy (Masi) Marlowe and her husband Christopher, Ft. Plain and Jill Gies and her husband Ken, Ft. Plain, his grandchildren; Scott Masi, Kristina Masi, Steven Masi, Stephanie Gies, Joshua Gies, Abigail Gies, Jeremy Gies, Christopher Marlowe, Jr. and Nicole Marlowe, great grandchildren; Arya (Masi) Fisher, Kay Marlowe, Arabella Marlowe, Emma Marlowe and Nevaeh Marlowe. He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Renee Shapiro in 1976 and by his son in law, David Joseph Masi in 2000. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Shapiro be considered to the Mt. Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078.
