Obituary of R. W. (Bill) Burrows
Little Falls, N.Y. — R. W. (Bill) Burrows died from cancer on August 20, 2014, at his home in Little Falls, New York.
He was born in Little Falls, N. Y. on September 24, 1949, the son of Ralph William Burrows and Gladys Anderson Burrows.
Bill graduated from the Berkshire School and then the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1971. He then served as a Lieutenant (SC) in the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1974.
A fourth-generation papermaker, he worked at Burrows Paper Corporation from age 12. After he returned to Little Falls in 1974 he led the company in hundredfold growth, from positions including chairman, CEO and president.
He also held leadership roles for 28 years at Herkimer County Trust, was a founding board member and first president of the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts, and founded the charitable Burrows Foundation in 1990.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Ji Ting Burrows; a son, William Burrows; four daughters, Lydia, Ava, Audrey and Joy Burrows; two granddaughters, Ariel Osman and Isabel Burrows; two sisters, Margaret Burrows Martin and Judith Burrows Csatari; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Susan Burrows Hooker. Bill will be missed by many.
A private family memorial service will be held in Little Falls at the convenience of the family.
