Obituary of George A Holland

LITTLE FALLS – George A. Holland, 91 of State Route 5S (Fall Hill), Little Falls passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the Iroquois Nursing Home, Syracuse where he had been a resident for the past several weeks. He was born on May 13, 1923 in the Town of Litchfield the son of the late Daniel and Lillian (Guyer) Holland. He was educated in Litchfield rural Schools and was a graduate of Ilion High School. Mr. Holland was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army entering the service in 1941 he served with 386th Anti – Aircraft Artillery Unit out of Camp Edwards, MA. He was stationed in England, France traveling to Normandy days after the D-Day invasion. He was honorably discharged in 1943. Following his service he remained in England doing volunteer work for the Red Cross. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign War VFW Post, Ilion. After graduation he began his working career for his brother Loren at Holland’s Machine Shop in Mohawk. After the war he began working as a troubleshooter for the General Electric Co., Utica also working gin Vermont, Massachusetts and Mississippi. He later was employed in that same capacity for the IBM Co. in Fishkill, NY. He later worked as a mechanical machinist for numerous companies throughout Central New York. After his retirement he enjoyed doing body and fender work on old cars from his shop at home on Fall Hill. He was united marriage to his beloved companion of 50 years the former Lila (Anderson) Moshier on July 5, 2013 in the Town of Danube. An avid race car fan especially dirt track stock cars. He was a member of the Al (Suicide) Sanders, Lou Lazzaro and Pete Campione (Best Buy Appliance) Racing Teams. He is survived by his wife; Lila Holland-Moshier, his step son; Gary Moshier and his wife Sonya, East Syracuse, his step daughter; Sharlene Moshier, Herkimer and his daughter; Lillian Bailey Cross, Mohawk, four grandchildren; Gary Moshier, Jr., Jacqueline Moshier, Brett Cross and Brooke Cross and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers; Loren and Floyd Holland, a sister; Edith and by a step son Wallace Moshier. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY with the Rev. Joseph Famulare officiating. Interment will take place in Indian Castle Cemetery, Town of Danube. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 3-6 pm and to attend the funeral services on Monday morning.
