Obituary of Richard A Gloskey

CANAJOHARIE – Richard A. (Dick) Gloskey, 80 of Latimer Hill Road, Canajoharie, NY passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the Palatine Nursing Home, Palatine Bridge, NY following a lengthy illness. He was born on October 10, 1934 in Little Falls, NY the son of the late August M. and Adelia T. (Pavalock) Gloskey Atkinson. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School. He was united in marriage to his wife of 40 years the former Beverley J. Miller on July 27, 1974 in the Town of Danube. Mr. Gloskey was a veteran of the US Army. Entering the service on January 29, 1957. He served with the 555th Ordinance Co. at Fort George Meade, Maryland. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist Fourth Class on September 30, 1962. He was a member of the Mohawk Valley Post VFW, Fort Plain. A motorcycle enthusiast, he also enjoyed bowling in various leagues and carpentry. His family fondly remembers his constant whistling and “Woody” Woodpecker impersonations. Mr. Gloskey was employed for 15 years by the Remington arms Co., Ilion. Following his retirement from Remington he became a Semi – Truck driver for the Bonnell Trucking Co., Little Falls until his final retirement in 2006. He is survived by his wife; Beverley, his sons; Wendell Gloskey and his wife Maryanne, Binghamton, NY and Scott Gloskey and his wife Angee, Lakeview, MI, his brother; August Gloskey and his wife Bonnie, King Ferry, NY and his sister; Karen Perkins and her husband Alan, Stratford, two grandchildren; Kristina and Brian Gloskey and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Emily Wagner on January 8, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 4:00 pm from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY with Pastor Wally Braemer of the Community Bible Church, Canajoharie officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 2-4 pm and to attend the funeral services to follow. In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Gloskey be considered to the Alzheimer’s Assn of CNY, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
