Obituary of Frank G Mendl

LITTLE FALLS - Frank G. Mendl, 95, formerly of 517 East Monroe Street passed away peacefully on Monday morning, March 23, 2015 at the Masonic Care Community in Utica, N.Y. Born July 15, 1919 in Prague, Czechoslovakia he was the son of Karel and Irma Mendl. After attending the School of Mechanical Engineering he immigrated to Canada where he worked for Stone and Webster Engineering Company and the Bata Shoe Corp. followed by service in the Canadian Reserve Army. In 1945 Mr. Mendl accepted a position with Cosmos Footwear Corporation in New Brunswick, NJ. In 1950 he was transferred to its affiliate in Little Falls, Allegro Shoe Corporation. Being named President in 1960 he remained there until retiring in 1985. He is predeceased by his wife Zerlina (Teddy) Vogl whom he married on October 10, 1947 at City Hall in New York, N.Y. Mr. Mendl was very active in the community serving for many years as a Trustee of the Little Falls YMCA and First Presbyterian Church. Additionally, he was a Director of the Herkimer County Trust Company for 30 years. Other memberships included the F&A Masons, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the Mohawk Valley Country Club. A lifelong skier, Mr. Mendl actively pursued the sport well into his 80’s. He is survived by two sons, Frank and his wife Cindy of Little Falls and Tom of White Plains, NY. Mr. Mendl had two beloved grandchildren, Jeff and Janela. Funeral services will be held at the Convenience of the Family. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Mendl be considered to the Little Falls YMCA, 15 Jackson Street, Little Falls, NY 13365.
