Obituary of Charles N Smith

LITTLE FALLS – Charles N. Smith, 86 of 37 Porteus Street, Little Falls, NY passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 peacefully at his residence with his family at his side He was born on October 20, 1928 in Little Falls the son of the late Walter and Mary (Harper) Smith and attended Little Falls High School. He was united in marriage to his wife of 44 years the former Patricia Noonan on June 27, 1970 in the Town of Little Falls. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Army. He entered the service on January 22, 1952. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on December 31, 1953. A member of the American Legion Post # 31, Little Falls he was also a life member of the Michael Plesick Post # 4915, VFW, Herkimer. Mr. Smith was employed for 40 years in the maintenance department of the former Library Bureau, Herkimer. Retiring in 1990. A collector of John Wayne memorabilia, he enjoyed watching Western Movies and TV shows, anything involving horses, spending time on his scooter all over town, playing cards daily with his wife Pat and the company of his daughters dog Lady Mae. He is survived by his wife Patricia, his daughter; Jodi Lynn Montgomery, Little Falls, his special friend ; Tony Ross, Amsterdam, NY, two daughters in Herkimer, his grandchildren; Chad Grower and his wife Amanda and James Grower, Herkimer, his great grandson; Isaac, his sister; Geraldine Walrath, Little Falls and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece; Kathy Jackson, Little Falls. He was predeceased by his brother; Russell Smith in 2003. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 6:00 pm from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery later in the spring where Military Honors will be accorded. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 5-6 pm and to attend the service to follow. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Smith be considered to the Disabled American Veterans, (DAV), 416 Lodi St., Syracuse, NY 13203. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
