Obituary of Geraldine M (Gerri) Herring

LITTLE FALLS – Geraldine M. (Gerri) Herring, 96 formerly of E. Lansing Street, Little Falls passed away peacefully from this life at the Alpine Nursing & Rehab. Center, Little Falls on Monday, May 18, 2015 with her loving family at her side. She had been resident of the Alpine Nursing Home since December of 2012. She was born on April 23, 1919 in Ilion, NY the daughter of the late George Herring and Rose La Fleur Quillinan. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, Little Falls class of 1938. Gerri was a member of the Holy Family Parish Church, Little Falls and the Rosarian’s of that church. She was also a member at one time of the Little Falls Hospital Guild and a volunteer for Catholic Charities of Herkimer County. She was employed as a waitress for Kane’s Tavern and The Favorite Food Restaurant, both of Little Falls. She also spent a summer at Long Lake, NY managing a gift shop, but came home every weekend to be with family. For 21 years she was employed as a sewing machine operator for the former Allegro Shoe Corp., Little Falls retiring in 1984. In her later years she was employed at the WCA, in Little Falls, where she enjoyed interacting with young people. She is survived by her nieces; Penelope (Penni) Harper, Salisbury Center, NY, Peggy Grant and her husband Charles, New Hartford, NY and Beth DeBella and her husband Vincent, New Hartford, NY, her nephew; Chris Herring, Poland, NY and her sister in law; Marguerite Herring, Poland, NY and several grand and great grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Ronald Herring in September of 1991 and by her sisters; Margery Jeffalone in February of 2011 and Marilyn Herring in April of 2012. Gerri will be fondly remembered for all the special times she spent with her nieces and nephews and other family members. Her family was her life throughout all her years. Gerri had a very strong Catholic faith and always lived by its values. She was a loving and giving person. She especially loved knitting and crocheting and passed that talent on to her grand niece Rebecca. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. There are no calling hours.
