Obituary of Russell E Windecker

TOWN OF DANUBE - Russell E. Windecker, 95 of State Route 5S, Fort Plain, NY (Town of Danube) passed away Friday, September 11, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica, NY. He was born on June 21, 1920 in the Town of Manheim, NY the son of the late Floyd F. and Mabel (Carr) Windecker. He was educated in Manheim rural schools. On September 11, 1942 he was united in marriage to his wife of 73 years the former Kathleen L. Warner in Los Angeles, Calif. Mr. Windecker was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army. He enlisted in the service on February 26, 1942 in Albany, NY. He served with Battery C. 634th AAA Battalion in Central Europe, Normandy and the Rhineland. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class on October 9, 1945 at Ft. Dix, NJ. He was a member of the Mohawk Valley Post, VFW, and the American Legion Post both of Fort Plain, NY. An accomplished carpenter and cabinet maker he truly enjoyed working in his shop. He was also avid horse racing fan, who after his retirement worked part time for OTB in Little Falls for a short time. Mr. Windecker was a Foreman Mechanic / Machinist for the Salada Foods Corp., Little Falls, NY for 44 years. Retiring in 1984. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, his grandchildren; Michael Burroughs and his wife Toni, Little Falls, NY and Jeanette Reinhardt, Delhi, NY, his great grandchildren Benjamin and Gina Reinhardt and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter; Carolyn A. Burroughs on May 17, 2013, his grandson; Joseph C. Burroughs on January 17, 2015, his brothers; Walter E. Windecker and Robert John Windecker and his sisters; Elsie Smith, Audrey Kraft and Edna Cool. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Mt. View Memorial Gardens, Town of Little Falls where Military Honors will be accorded. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY.
