Obituary of Jean E Neary

HERKIMER – Jean E. Neary, 84 formerly of Little Falls and Herkimer passed away, October 25, 2015 at the Folts Home, Herkimer. She was born on January 11, 1931 in Little Falls, NY the daughter of the late Albert and Carrie (Werner) Silvernail. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School class of 1949 and furthered her education at the Utica School of Business. She was united in marriage to her husband of 56 years John G. Neary on January 6, 1951 at the First Baptist Church, Little Falls. Mr. Neary predeceased her on January 3, 2007. Mrs. Neary was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Herkimer, where she was active in the Church Council and the Ladies WELCA of the church, and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Drives. In 1998 she was awarded by the Herkimer County Office of the Aging as “Senior Citizen of the Year” for her outstanding service to the community. She was also a member of the American Medical Records Association. She began her career in medical records at the former Herkimer Memorial Hospital and remained there after they became Valley Health Services, retiring from Valley Health Services in 1986. Following her retirement she was employed as a part time consultant for the Folts Home, Herkimer. She is survived by her sons; Donald A. Neary, Newport and Robert D. Neary and his wife Kathleen, Ilion and her daughter; Beverly Griffin and her husband Brian, Fairfield, her grandchildren; Brice Griffin (Kerri), Lisa Marriott, Nicole Neary Benedict (Andy) and Rebecca Neary, great grandchildren, Spencer, Jacob, Gabriele and Conner Griffin, Tyler and Kelsey Marriott and Donald and Shawn Overacker, nephews; James Rice (Helen), Honeoye Falls, NY and Jon Rice, Little Falls. She was predeceased by her sister; Patricia M. Rice on August 6, 2013. Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 11:00 am from the Trinity Lutheran Church, 443 Henry Street, Herkimer, NY with the Rev. Ann Zimmerman officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, November 2, 2015 from 10 - 11 am and to attend the services to follow. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Neary be considered to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 443 Henry St., Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
