Obituary of Richard J Van Gorder

LITTLE FALLS – Richard J. Van Gorder, 89 a longtime resident of 6 W. Shore Street, Little Falls, NY and since December of 2015 a resident of Valley Health Residential, Herkimer, NY passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Medical Center, New Hartford. He was born on October 2, 1926 in Little Falls the son of the late William E. and Marguerite (Campbell) Van Gorder, Sr.. He received his education in Dolgeville Schools and was a graduate of the Utica School of Commerce. On August 13, 1949 he was united in marriage to his wife of 51 years the former Gladys I. Billings at St. Paul’s Universalist Church, Little Falls. Mrs. Van Gorder predeceased him on January 9, 2001. A veteran of World War II serving with the US Army. He entered the service on February 7, 1945. He served with the 20th Infantry Regiment in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1946. He was an over 60 year member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge # 796, F&AM, and a former member of the American Legion Post # 31, Little Falls. Mr. Van Gorder last employed in the Shipping and Receiving Dept. of the Burrows Paper Corp., Little Falls. He is survived by his sons; Barry Van Gorder and his wife Gail and Jeffrey Van Gorder and his wife Linda both of Little Falls, his sisters; Marguerite (Peg) Roberson, Idaho, Imogene Nichols, S. Carolina and Karen Crouse, St. Johnsonville, four grandchildren Jessica Gosson, Amsterdam, Jocelyn Van Gorder, Las Vegas, NV, Pamela Van Gorder, Little Falls and Sarah Dobrovolc, Little Falls, three great grandchildren Avery and Brody Dobrovolc, and Madelyn Gosson and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers William E. Van Gorder, Jr. and Harold Van Gorder, and by his sisters; Marion Clemons and Donna Hair. Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, NY with Rev. Joseph Famulare officiating and Military Honors will be accorded. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. There are no calling hours.
