Obituary of Robert F Murphy

LITTLE FALLS - Robert F. Murphy, 91 of Arthur Street, Little Falls passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown with his loving family at his side. He was born on April 8, 1925 in Little Falls the son of the late Francis and Christina (Lang) Murphy. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School Class of 1943. Mr. Murphy was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army. He entered the service on June 29, 1943 in Utica, NY. He was stationed with the 102nd Infantry Division in Central Europe and the Rhineland. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on March 22, 1946 at Ft. Dix, NJ. He was united in marriage to his wife of 62 years the former Margaret Bendzunas on December 5, 1951 at St. Joseph’s Church, Herkimer. Mrs. Murphy predeceased him on February 11, 2014. A lifelong member of the Holy Family Parish Church, Little Falls. He was also a member of the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612, VFW, Little Falls and was an avid Yankees and Norte Dame fan. Mr. Murphy was employed for 41 years by the Salada Foods Corp., Little Falls primarily in the warehouse, retiring in 1987. He also served as the company union representative for many years. He is survived by his sons; Robert Murphy and his wife Judy, Livingston Manor, NY, Dr. Thomas Murphy and his wife Barbara, Bend, OR and James Murphy and his wife Barbara, Windham, NH, his grandchildren; Danielle Murphy, Brody Murphy and his fiancé Alyssa Skinner, Sean Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Rebecca Murphy, Meredith Murphy and Riley Murphy. He was predeceased by a grandson; Kyle Murphy. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor. Main & John St.’s, Little Falls, NY where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held by the Rev. Terence Healy. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer at a later time convenient with the family. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 5-7 pm and to attend the funeral services on Wednesday morning. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Murphy be considered to the Little Falls Public Library, 10 Waverly Place, Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
