Obituary of Stephen W. "Cheff" Sadlon

LITTLE FALLS - Stephen W. “Cheff” Sadlon, 89, of W, Main Street, Little Falls, NY passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016, completing his life on Earth and he will now live on in the hearts and in the memories of those who loved Steve. He was born on June 25, 1926 in Little Falls, the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Sadlon) Sadlon. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School, class of 1944, and Steve later attended classes at Mohawk Valley Community College and Utica College. A veteran of World War II Mr. Sadlon served with the US Army, entering the service on October 3, 1946 in Albany, NY. He was stationed with the 123rd Infantry Regiment, 33rd Division in the Philippines and Japan. He was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant on October 2, 1949. On August 12, 1950 he was united in marriage to his wife of 65 years, the former Josephine Bajda, at St. Joseph’s Church, Herkimer, NY. Mrs. Sadlon predeceased him on March 18, 2015. Mr. Sadlon was a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls and served on the church council for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post # 31, Little Falls, member and past commander of the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612 VFW, Little Falls and an over 50 year member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge # 796, formerly Little Falls Masonic Lodge # 181 F&AM, and the Scottish Rite of that lodge. As a teenager he began his working career as a Bell Hop for the former Snyder Hotel, Little Falls. He was later employed for 44 years by the Salada Foods Corp., Little Falls eventually becoming their production manager. He retired from that position in 1988. Steve & Josephine enjoyed 25 years of being “snowbirds” to Florida in the winter and enjoying the camp at Caroga Lake in the summer. Steve also enjoyed taking almost nightly rides with his daughter Kathy and her dog to see deer and other wildlife. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time over the years with his nephews Ron and Rich Sadlon. In his younger years he helped organize and played with the Little Falls Vet’s semi-pro football team. He is survived by his daughter; Kathy Sadlon and the family dog, Magic, his granddaughter; Teri Lees Ayres, nephews; Ron Sadlon, Paines Hollow and Rich Sadlon, Cazenovia and many great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine, daughter, Mary Jo Sadlon Lees, granddaughter Jodi Michele Lees and a brother John Sadlon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:00 am from the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E. Gansevoort Street, Little Falls, NY with the Rev. Joseph Famulare, Pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls where Military Honors will be accorded. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 3-6 pm and to attend the funeral services on Saturday morning. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Sadlon be considered to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E. Gansevoort St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
