Obituary of Herman E Herringshaw

SALISBURY – Herman E. Herringshaw, 86 of Cemetery Road, Stratford, NY (Town of Salisbury) passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, NY. He was born on July 21, 1930 in the Town of Salisbury the son of the late Ernest and Ruth (Petzold) Herringshaw. He was educated in Salisbury rural and Stratford schools. On May 28, 1955 he was united in marriage to his wife of 61 years the former Mellnette L. VanDyke in the Town of Salisbury. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Herringshaw was employed for 20 years as an equipment operator for the Town of Salisbury Highway Dept. until his retirement. He was also employed at onetime by the former Helterline Saw Mill and at various construction projects in the area. He is survived by his wife, Mellnette, his sons, Frank Herringshaw and his wife Sheree, Dolgeville, David Herringshaw and his fiancé Lorraine Elwood, Mohawk, Roger Herringshaw and his wife Marilyn, Heber Springs, Arkansas and Ronald Herringshaw and his wife Darlene, Fort Plain, his sister, Gertrude Douglas, Herkimer, grandchildren, Brett Herringshaw, Carrie Rockwell, Eric, Amber, Allan, Brian, Jeffery, Andrew, Jarred, Scott, Derick and Kimberly Herringshaw, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Harold, Carlton and Benjamin Herringshaw, his sister, Lila Bilger and by a granddaughter, Heather Herringshaw. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life to be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 beginning at 12:00 pm at the home of his granddaughter Carrie Rockwell, 33 Ransom St., Dolgeville, NY Spring graveside services will be held at Salisbury Rural Cemetery, Town of Salisbury in the spring of 2017 at a time and date to be announced. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Herringshaw be considered to the Alpine Nursing & rehab. Center, 755 E. Monroe St., Little Falls, NY 13365 or to the Bassett Medical Center, 1 Atwell Rd., Cooperstown, NY 13326. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
