Obituary of Edith H Tucker

CLIFTON SPRINGS – Edith Roberta Hardy Tucker, formerly of Little Falls and most recently of Ashton Place, Clifton Springs, NY, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Rehabilitation Center, Clifton Springs, NY. She was 96 years old. Born on May 4, 1920, to parents Jessie Rhodes Hardy and Ralph Hardy of Clarks Summit, PA, Edith graduated in 1943 from Mansfield University (PA) with a BA degree in secondary education. In 1947, she moved to Jasper NY to begin work in the local school district, where she met another young instructor, Stanley Tucker, who was also recently employed as a physical education teacher and football coach. In June 1947, Edith and Stanley married and moved to the Mohawk Valley to start a family and begin a long tenure of service to the city and schools of Little Falls, NY. Edith was active in school, church, and community organizations, all the while raising their two children. She was a member in both First United Methodist and First Presbyterian churches; a volunteer leader for the Girl and Boy Scouts of America; and a Daughter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Edith also served often and ably as a substitute teacher throughout the district’s elementary schools, and assisted her husband as advisor to several graduating classes throughout the 1950’s. In retirement, she was also active in the Herkimer County chapter of the NYS Retired Teachers Association. After their retirement, Edith and Stan traveled frequently to Lakeland FL, where they enjoyed the company of friends and family, and Edith organized and participated in the annual reunion of “snow-birds” from the Little Falls area. Throughout her long and loving life, Edith was best known for her devotion to family and friends; her gentle spirit and kind demeanor; her love of music and homemaking; and her kindness and compassion to others. Edith was the beloved wife of the late Stanley Tucker to whom she was married for 64 years. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Feligno and her friend Peter Pirro of Geneva NY; her son Robert Tucker and his wife Julie of Great Falls, VA; granddaughters Laura Feligno of Geneva NY, and Katie Lawlor, and her husband Kevin, of Quincy, MA; her grandson Jeff Feligno and his wife Carrie of Seattle WA; several nieces and nephews, and their spouses and families; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her brother Edward Hardy, also of Clarks Summit, PA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY with the Pastor Tamara Razzano, of the First Presbyterian Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls in the spring. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 9-11 am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.
