Obituary of Jane L. Voorhees

SALISBURY CENTER – Jane L. Voorhees, 91 of Emmonsburg Road, Salisbury Center, NY passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Valley Health Services where she had been a resident since July of 2013. She was born on December 31, 1925 in Little Falls, NY the daughter of the late Roscoe and Loretta (Bowers) Boyer. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School Class of 1943 and the Excelsior School of Business, Utica. On October 13, 1951, she was united in marriage to her husband of 44 years Glenn E. Voorhees at St. Mary’s Church Parish House, Little Falls. Mr. Voorhees predeceased her on December 30, 1995. Mrs. Voorhees was a communicant of the Holy Family Parish Church, Little Falls. As well as a member of the Oppenheim Senior Citizens, she enjoyed knitting, doing hand crafts and reading. She was employed for many years in the cafeteria for the Dolgeville Central School. She also worked as a volunteer and eventually became the director of the Kirby Free Library, Salisbury Center, retiring in 2012. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Voorhees, Salisbury Center, her daughter Karen Scanlon and her husband Robert, Salisbury Center, her daughter in law, Kathy Voorhees, Dolgeville and three grandchildren, Katie Scanlon, Salisbury Center, Caleb Voorhees and Shae Voorhees, both of Dolgeville. She was predeceased by her son, Douglas J. Voorhees on May 22, 2010, her grandson, Tyler R. Scanlon on June 6, 2009, and her sisters Ann Courtney on October 1, 1992 and Phyllis Boyer on July 11, 2003. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor., Main & John St.’s, Little Falls, NY where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terence Healy. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills in the spring. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Voorhees be considered to the Kirby Free Library, PO Box 322, Salisbury Center, NY 13454. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Valley Health Services for their kindness, care and compassion shown to Mrs. Voorhees and her family.
