Obituary of Phyllis M McCarthy
LITTLE FALLS – Phyllis M. McCarthy, 88 of Burwell Street, Little Falls passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at her residence following a brief illness.
She was born on June 30, 1928 in Little Falls, NY the daughter of the late Owen and Margaret (Reardon) Plunkett. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, Little Falls Class of 1945 and attended the Excelsior School of Business, Utica.
On September 12, 1953 she was united in marriage to her husband of 61 years Joseph E. McCarthy at St. Mary’s Church, Little Falls. Mr. McCarthy predeceased her on May 10, 2014
She was a member of the Holy Family Parish Church, Little Falls and of the church Rosarians. She was also a member of the Christian Service Committee, Little Falls Historical Society and served on the Little Falls Municipal Golf Commission.
Mrs. McCarthy was employed at onetime by the former National Automotive Fibers, Co., Little Falls, NY Telephone Co. and for many years assisted her husband in the operation of McCarthy’s Drug Store, Little Falls and was last employed as an office clerk for the former Mahoney & Mahoney Insurance Agency, Little Falls.
She is survived by her son, Joseph M. McCarthy and his wife LeeAnn, Portsmouth, RI and her daughter, Mary E. McCarthy, Chatam, Mass., six grandchildren, Bart, Ryan, Adrian, Sierra and Sydney McCarthy and Eamon McKenney, four great grandchildren, Carmen, Declan, Dylan and Savanna Marie McCarthy, her cousins, many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly and enjoyed visiting with. She was predeceased by her son William J. McCarthy on June 29, 2009 and by her sisters, Nancy and Elizabeth Plunkett and Joan Seifried.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 10:30 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY and at 11:00 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor. Main & John St.’s, Little Falls where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terence Healy. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am and to attend the funeral mass to follow.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. McCarthy be considered to the Holy Family Parish Church, 763 E. Main St., Little Falls, NY 13365 or to the Auriesville Shrine, 136 Shrine Rd., Fultonville, NY 12010. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
