Obituary of Alice E Fake

DOLGEVILLE - Alice E. Fake, 82, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on May 16, 2018. Born in Florence, NY on April 5, 1936, she was the daughter of Ralph and Bessie (Williams) Glover. Alice grew up on her family’s farm on Barker Road in Dolgeville, NY, graduated from Dolgeville Central School, Class of 1954, and subsequently worked at Daniel Green. In 1958, she married D. William Fake of Little Falls, NY and they made Dolgeville their home where they raised their three children: Lorraine Mott (Bob Baker) of Manlius NY, Judith Schneeberger (Ron) of Fairfax VA, Edward Fake (Linda) of Dolgeville NY. Alice was always very involved in her children’s activities, serving as a Brownie, Girl Scout, & Cub Scout leader as well as a teacher’s aide at Dolgeville Central School. Music and the arts have played an integral role in Alice’s life and her community service. She shared her love of music as a member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church Choir for over sixty years, a junior choir director, and a member of the Mohawk Valley Chorale Society for over 25 years. She was a requested soloist at many weddings and honored the lives of friends and family by singing at their funerals. Since 1960 she was a soloist for the Auskerada Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was instrumental in creating “The Merry Minstrels” singing group that traveled throughout CNY entertaining nursing home residents and performing at numerous community events for over a decade. Her volunteerism stretched through many organizations where she made dear friends. A lifelong member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, she served in many capacities, including President of the Board of Trustees. Rarely did a church luncheon or dinner go by that Alice was not seen in the kitchen or out in the dining room, usually serving one of her lemon meringue pies. Her kitchen skills were welcome at the Masonic Temple in preparing and serving countless dinners for nearly sixty years. As a team, she and her husband Bill served twice as Matron and Patron while Alice also had the honor to serve as Eastern Star’s Grand Representative of the State of Iowa to NY. She was one of the original committee members of the Violet Festival and remained active assisting with the annual flower show and House Decorating Contest. Her gardening skills were found around town in different planters beautifying her village. In 2007 she was awarded the Lyndon Lyon Community Award honoring her service to the village. She served as trustee and recording secretary for the Snell, Zimmerman, Timmerman Reunion Inc. where her genealogy is rooted. Her main occupation was the secretary and bookkeeper for the family business Fake’s Auto Enterprise. She was a staunch supporter of the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts serving as trustee and a member of the Special Events Committee. Besides her immediate family, Alice was tremendously proud of her grandchildren, traveling to as many of their activities as she could and following them as far as Vienna, Austria, & Vancouver, Canada. She loved, supported and encouraged Jessica (Brian), Briana, Patrick, Madeleine, Colin, Jacqueline & Karlton and most recently, her first great grandchild Owen, who also filled her heart with joy. So many others called her “Grandma Alice” and she loved them just as dearly. She has left a legacy through her community work and strong devotion to all who knew her that our family will all be working hard to continue. To honor such a special woman, we ask you to do the same. Remember her quote when asked to serve your community or help in a fundraiser, just say, “Here I am, what can I do to help.” An Order of the Eastern Star service will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 3:30 pm from the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, 21 N. Helmer Ave, Dolgeville followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 4:00 pm. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY.
