To The Brown-McCue Family, My husband and I are so sorry for your loss. Our hearts go out to you . What was suppossed to be a fun weekend with fresh snow turned into a nightmare. My son Nicholas was skiing with Brendan along with the other 2 boys. Although we did not personally know Brendan, we are still in disbelief that this happened to him. I have seen many pictures of Brendan from sailing at SBU to see what a beautiful boy he is. Nicholas spoke highly of Brendan, and they all miss him.

I am so incredibly sorry to hear about Brendan's passing. Elizabeth Valakas and I shared classes with him in high school and we will never forget debating with him over Freud in our "Great Books" class. He was such fun to be around-- someone who you could tell was genuine to the core. He will be greatly missed. Our most sincere thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. Love, Samantha Kellar & Elizabeth (New Trier Class of 2010)

Brendan was such a fun and joyous person. I had the pleasure of spending 10 days at sea with him this past summer, and he taught me so much about sailing and marine life. I'll always remember climbing high up into the rigging with him, which he seemed to enjoy quite a bit. Though I only spent those 10 days with him and didn't know him all that well, it was clear to me that he was a very special guy. I am so sorry to his family for this tremendous loss. We will all carry his memory with us. Rest in Peace.

Christy. My college roommate, who taught me so much about the value of hard work and hard play, and how to love and enjoy life and have fun - and much about "adulting" that I was not good at!! My heart is absolutely breaking for you and Bill. No one should have to bury their child. I have been thinking of you all week. Please accept Denny and my deepest, deepest sympathies. I am about to make a donation in Brendan's name to Sea Education Association.

Chris, you and Bill are in my thoughts and prayers. Your pride in Brendan and your love for him was so evident the last time we spoke, and though I know your hearts are breaking, it sounds like he well and truly lived and loved every minute of his time here. May his memory be a blessing to you both.

Dear Chris and Bill,
We have not had a chance to meet, but it was with profound sadness that my daughter Katie told me this afternoon about the news regarding Brendan's passing.
My daughter Katie, a high school senior, had the wonderful opportunity and privilege to sail and learn from Brendan this past summer during her SEA experience...an experience that was so formative and one she will always remember. She said to me "we bonded over our experience of both growing up in Chicago and sailing/racing 420's on Lake Michigan".
Please know that your son is an exceptional person and I believe his impact on the young people that he connected with through his work with SEA will have everlasting impact. You and your family, as well as all of Brendan's 'extended family' of friends, colleagues and shipmates, are in our hearts and prayers. God Bless Brendan.
The Faris Family (Chris, Jean, Katie)

I was skiing with friends and family when Brendan came down the trail. My friend was the first to get to Brendan and after I called 911 I went to Brendan as well. I started CPR while my friend made sure Brendan would not slide down the mountain in the woods. Another man came by and he and I administered CPR for about 10-15 minutes before mountain help arrived. I tried hard and am so sorry I couldn’t do more. It seemed as if it was already too late when we got to Brendan which was about less than a minute after he left the trail. I am so terribly sorry for your loss.
