Obituary of Dorothy A Sterzinar

HERKIMER – Dorothy A. Sterzinar, 86, formerly of Loomis Street, Little Falls, NY and recently a resident of Claxton/Foltsbrook Senior Living, Herkimer, NY since 2002, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. Dorothy was born on January 13, 1933 in Little Falls, the daughter of the late John and Amelia (Maniacek) Mucica. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School Class of 1951. On May 16, 1953 she was united in marriage to her husband of 37 years, John L. Sterzinar, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls. John L. predeceased her on October 5, 1990. Dorothy was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls. During the 1970’s she along with her husband John were active as church youth group advisors. Dotty often spoke fondly of the camping trips with John L. and the youth group at Nick’s Lake with Pastor Ken Zindle. Dorothy was an avid reader, enjoyed baking, collecting wildflowers, doing crafts, dining at the Canal Side Inn in Little Falls with family, and decorating the common areas at her home at Claxton/Foltsbrook Senior Living. She is survived by her children, Kathleen A. Mocko and her husband Ronald, Utica, John D. Sterzinar and his wife Deborah, Herkimer, Karen L. Read and her husband William, Whitesboro, and Chris D. Sterzinar and his wife Kirsten Jaquith, Essex Junction, VT. She is also survived by her grandchildren Erica Santiago-Sterzinar (Jess), Rebecca Shelton (Randolph), Laura Sterzinar (Mike Buttino), Sarah St. Germain (Matthew), Ryan Mocko (Lidiane), Emily Read and Kelly Read. The family would also like to acknowledge her life-long friend from Loomis Street, Helen and her best friend of 50 years, Angie. Dorothy and John’s marriage left a legacy of love and support for their family to emulate. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the following for their kind, friendly, caring, and professional care: Dr. V. Sharma, the staff at Claxton/Foltsbrook Senior Living, Folts Home and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls in the spring of 2019. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Dorothy be considered to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E. Gansevoort St., Little Falls, NY 13365 or a library of your choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home for this purpose.
