Obituary of Shirley L. Halladay

Shirley L Halladay, a lifelong resident of Little Falls, NY passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, February 19, 2021, at the age of 86. Shirley was born on July 8, 1934 to Henry and Veronica (Dupont) Dise. She was educated in Little Falls Schools, graduating in 1952, and subsequently earned many American Institute of Banking certifications which led to a 41-year career with the former Herkimer County Trust Company in Little Falls, serving as Loan Officer and Branch Manager until her retirement in 1995. On June 19, 1954, Shirley was united in marriage to Merton Halladay, their union lasting more than 66 years, until her passing. Together they enjoyed an active life of square dancing as members of the Little Falls Square Dancing team “Diamond Squares”, playing music together, card games with friends, and traveling to or through almost all of the 48 continental states in the U.S., an accomplishment she was very proud of. Shirley was a very talented organ player, volunteering her services to the both the Lutheran and Universalist Churches in Little Falls, and the Indian Castle Church. She also very much enjoyed crafting and sewing, making most of her home décor herself. Shirley was a lover of all animals, but was especially partial to the various kitties who shared their home over the years. Shirley is survived by her husband Merton; her brother, Henry Dise Jr. and his wife, Joan of Little Falls NY; her niece Julie (Dise) Parris and her husband, Ben of Flowery Branch GA; her nephew Justin Dise and his wife, Suzanne of Little Falls NY; and her great-niece Hannah Dise of Troy NY, as well as several cousins and friends around the Mohawk Valley. She was pre-deceased by her parents in 1986. Family and friends are welcome to gather for calling hours at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, 42 N Ann Street in Little Falls NY, on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, 5:00pm-8:00pm, and for a memorial service on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 10:00am. All guests must comply with established pandemic precautionary measures while attending the services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Shirley’s memory to your local Humane Society, or to St. Paul’s Universalist Church of Little Falls NY.
