Obituary of Harold W. Thurston

Mr. Harold W. Thurston, 71, of West Main Street, Ilion, New York died Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown. Born on March 2, 1950 in Little Falls, NY, he was the son of Harold and Mary Thurston. He completed 8th grade at Benton Hall Academy and lived all his life in the area. Harold worked at Little Falls Hospital as a Porter until he no longer could. He really enjoyed his job. In 2003 in Dolgeville, NY, Harold married Ruth Thurston. Harold was an extremely resilient person and gave everything he had to every challenge he faced. Although he braved several medical conditions in his final years, Harold always managed to fill his days with love. Harold loved to watch professional wrestling, westerns, and his NY Giants, he loved his children and was proud to see the men and women they became, and he loved his grandchildren; he never passed on an opportunity to spend time with them. More than anything, Harold loved his wife of 18 years, Ruth. The couple were virtually inseparable for more than 25 years. Harold will be tremendously missed by all who knew him. His son, Matthew (Leo) Thurston predeceased him. Mr. Thurston is survived by his wife, Ruth Thurston of Ilion, NY; son, Scott W. Thurston of Ilion, NY; daughter, Christine Thurston of Herkimer, NY; step-sons, Barry Schuyler of Ilion, NY, Matthew Schuyler and wife, Traci Schuyler of Virginia; step-daughters, Sarah Church and her husband, Brett Church of Mohawk, NY, Heather Carpenter of Ilion, NY; 5 grandchildren and 1 on the way, Kinslie, Elliana, and Bayleigh Schuyler, Megan and Jennifer Church, and Baby Brett Church, Jr. (aka Sonny as Harold fondly referred to him), who will be born on May 21, 2021. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 10:00-12:00PM at Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY 13365.
