Obituary of Grant W. Phillips

Mr. Grant W. Phillips, 100, of Ashe Road, Little Falls, New York passed away on June 19, 2021 in the Little Falls Hospital, after a brief illness. He was the son of Charles F. and Evelyn Weller Phillips, born at home on May 6, 1921. Grant graduated from Little Falls High School, Class of 1939, returning for past graduate courses in 1940 and later taking course studies at Utica College. In his early adult years he was employed by the family business, Phillips Transportation, driving Phillip's Taxis and Phillip's School Buses, as well as working as a Page Clerk during the Senate Sessions in Albany. Grant was a World War II Veteran, having served in the US Coast Guard from August 1942 until March 1946. He received an Honorable Discharge as a MOMM3C (Motor Machinist Mate 3rd Class). He was later employed as a Mechanic at Whitcomb Pontiac from 1953-1956, Remington Rand 1956-1957, and then a thirty year career as Engineer and Appraiser with the Utica Office of New York State Department of Transportation, beginning in 1957. On October 23, 1948 Grant was united in marriage with Charlotte Whitcomb. He was a lifelong member of the Universalist Church, served on the Board of Trustees, and especially enjoyed being a member of and singing in the choir. Grant was a seventy-five year member of the Masonic Lodge, a life member of the Elks Lodge, and enjoyed many years of golf as a member of the Little Falls Senior Golf League. He also served many years on the Town of Manheim planning Board as well as being a Notary Public. Grant was a well known and highly respected member of the community. He was a man of few words but always with a great sense of humor. His goal was always to "Keep the Peace". He will be greatly missed by so many. Grant is survived by his wife, Charlotte; daughter, Barbara Phillips and spouse, Greg Techmanski of Whitesboro, NY; son, Richard W. Phillips and wife, Kirsten Morotti Phillips of Perth, NY; grandson, Maurice VanDervert of Vernon, NY; sister, Ellen Phillips Hughes and husband, Malcolm Hughes of Roxbury, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles W. Phillips and wife, Kathleen Downing Phillips; as well as his second wife, Sophia Kllc Phillips. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 10:00AM at Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY 13365. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 5:00-7:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Rural Park Cemetery.
