Obituary of Emily McPherson

Emily N. McPherson, 88, of Central Square, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, after a courageous battle with cancer. The daughter of Wasyl and Eva (Bundyk) Nasypany, she was born on August 1, 1934, and grew up on the family farm in East Herkimer, N.Y. Following her graduation from Herkimer High School in 1952, Emily earned a Bachelor's Degree in 1956 from Utica College of Syracuse University, and a Master’s of Science in Education from the SUNY Teachers College at Oneonta in 1959. Emily started her career in education teaching 1st and 2nd grades at Herkimer Elementary School. She left the classroom to raise her four children, and volunteered in their many school and community activities. Emily later taught Adult Education classes for OCM BOCES. Emily’s greatest passion was spending time with her family. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who created a loving and welcoming home. She enjoyed hosting and attending family gatherings as well as tending her large flower beds and vegetable garden on the farm. Emily leaves behind her beloved family, an enormous extended family, and friends who will dearly miss her hospitality and kindness. She is survived by her daughter Sandra (David) Crawford, sons Scott (Karen) McPherson and Paul (Lisa) McPherson, and grandchildren Trevor, Liah, Joseph, Benjamin, Jadyn, Carolyn, Michael, Abigail, and Evan. She is also survived by brothers Raymond (Shiuvaun) Nasypany, Joseph (Betty) Nasypany, and sisters-in-law Donna Sheffield and Delores McPherson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by Vaughn R. McPherson, her husband of 59 years; her daughter Elaine, her brothers and sisters Michael Nasypany, Mary (Andy) Malinchak, Jean (Marty) Mayton, Peter (Helen) Nasypany, John (Patricia) Nasypany, George (Beatrice) Nasypany, Paul (Frances) Nasypany; her in-laws Vernon (Emily) MacPherson, Duane (Judy) McPherson, Phyllis Nasypany, Glenn McPherson, Dale McPherson, and Louis Sheffield. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 11, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Chapman-Moser Funeral Home in Little Falls, N.Y. Her funeral service will be on Wednesday, July 12 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church In Herkimer, N.Y. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in East Herkimer immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in memory of Emily. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the medical staff at Crouse Hospital and Hematology Oncology CNY for their compassion and care.
