Obituary of Margaret Averell
February 25, 2024
In this time of our deepest sorrow, we pause and remember how special and precious it was to have her as our Mom. She told us many times that, even as a little girl, growing up on Long Island, she always wanted to marry a farmer and have lots of kids. Mission accomplished Mom.
Margaret met and in short order married the true love of her life David Averell on May 1, 1954 in Freeport NY. Together they raised 7 children on their dairy farm “up on the hill” of Travis Road, outside Newville. They were married for 62 years, exactly, as her Dave passed away on their anniversary in 2016.
Family was always important to Mom and Dad. They made sure we got lots of time with aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbor kids, practically anyone we introduced to them, they all just became family.
Mom was supportive of all our endeavors, encouraged us, laughed with us, cried with us and above all, loved us deeply.
While raising 6 boys and 1 girl she somehow managed to find time to sing in the Valley Voices for Christ choral group, run a video store with her niece Pam Gardinier, be a parts runner for farm supplies, bowl several 300 games, snowmobile and motorcycle with friends, grow a garden and always have dinner ready every night. (You better have a shirt on and no hat at her table)
We will miss her deeply but take comfort in knowing she is now once again reunited with her beloved husband and family.
In keeping with Margaret’s wishes, a private memorial will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest with her husband, David, at the Rural Park Cemetery near Ingham Mills, New York.
Cremation and services are under the direction of Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY 13365.
