Obituary of Joyce Ann Petrie

Mrs. Joyce Ann (Vickery) Petrie, 78, of Lower Paradise Road, Little Falls, NY, passed away on March 2, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Little Falls, NY, on August 26, 1945, the daughter of the late George and Lois (Dennison) Vickery. Joyce graduated from Little Falls High School and spent her early adult life raising her eight children. She entered the workforce after raising her children but still had a dedicated 34-year career working for the Little Falls Central School District in the cafeteria as an aide.    
Joyce enjoyed taking walks, bird watching, doing puzzles, a good cup of coffee and being surrounded by animals.
She always saved the last bite for every dog she had, each holding a special place in her heart. But what Joyce loved most was spending time with her family.   If there was a family gathering, you could find Joyce sitting with a baby in her arms, telling them all about growing up Petrie. Joyce was “Grandma Joyce” to 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, so there were a lot of babies for her to hold through the years.  
On July 11, 1964, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, she married David W. Petrie, Sr. who predeceased her on March 21, 1994. She was also predeceased by her brother John Vickery, sister Wendy Vickery, and her beloved son, Michael Petrie in 2018, a loss she never quite recovered from.  
Survivors include her children, Elaine (Donald) Lippert, Karen (James) Filipski, David Petrie, Jr, Richard (Melissa) Petrie, Ron (Lisa) Petrie, Julie (Nathan) King, Laura Hargrave and daughter-law Liz Petrie. Her siblings Valdean, George "Rick," Jean, Leslie, Robin and Ronda, 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her family would like to extend a thank you to special friend Anne Mckeon, who provided Joyce with compassion and comfort over the last few months. 
Visitation will occur from 4:00-7:00 on Thursday, March 7, at Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY 13365. A Funeral Service will occur at the funeral home on Friday, March 8, at 11:00 AM. Fr. Dadello officiating. The burial will take place in the spring at Garlock Cemetery.
