Obituary of Elizabeth A Babinec

LITTLE FALLS - Elizabeth Ann Babinec, 90, formerly of East Gansevoort Street, Little Falls, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Folts Home, Herkimer where she had been a resident since January 15, 2014. Betty was born on November 8, 1923 in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Ransford and Anna (Clark) Bowen. She was a graduate of the Little Falls High School Class of 1941. After high school, she completed her Bachelors degree in Education from Geneseo State College. She was united in marriage to her husband of 62 years, William (Bill) Babinec, on February 28, 1949, in Little Falls. She was predeceased by her husband on August 17, 2011. Betty was employed for several years as a teacher before she and Bill started their family. In later years, she was employed as a substitute teacher for the Little Falls School District and Herkimer BOCES, often in special needs classrooms. Betty was a devoted communicant of St Mary’s Church in Little Falls. She participated in the Rosary Society for many years, and formerly served on the Parish Council. She also served her community as a board member of the Little Falls Library, and as a board member of the Herkimer ARC (Area Resource Center). Betty and her husband Bill were faithful supporters of the HARC for their dedication and service to their daughter, Beth. She is survived by her children, Ellen (John) Senisi of Schenectady, NY; Mary (Steve) Shemo of Niskayuna, NY; Martin (Krista) Babinec of Little Falls, NY; Steven (Kathy) Babinec of Seattle, WA; Anne (Dave) Kolman of Niskayuna, NY; Jean (Barry) Smith of Little Falls, NY; and Beth Babinec of Herkimer, NY; 15 beloved grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Clark Bowen and Charles Bowen, and sisters Marion Mott and Jane Read. The family recently celebrated Betty’s 90th birthday in November 2013 at the Overlook Mansion in Little Falls with her children, their spouses, and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 11:00 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor. Main & John Streets, Little Falls, NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terence Healy. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls, later in the spring. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 North Ann Street, Little Falls, on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 5-7 pm, and to attend the funeral services on Wednesday morning. Contributions in memory of Betty, if desired, may be made to the Herkimer Area Resource Center (HARC), 350 South Washington Street, Herkimer, NY. 13350. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
