Norma, Eric and Family, I am so sorry to read ofDonnie's passing. I remember Don playing in the band with Harry. They really enjoyed themselves. Pine Lake was the meeting place and everyone waited for the next weekend to roll around to hear The Country Playboys. Harry and Don can get together again and have their own small band. Don will be an angel up above looking down on all of you. Again my condolences to your family.

I remember how incredibly happy he made me and every other kid who rode his school bus by buying them ice cream at Restante's on the last day of school each year. It wasn't just the ice cream, it was his kindness, joy and generosity throughout the year that I'll always remember. He knew how to handle kids. He was always in control, never mean to a kid who was acting up -- but stern enough to make the kid stop misbehaving without having to say or do anything the least bit hurtful. Many of the world's best people grow up in small towns or rural areas and never leave them. There are true heros out there, most of them unsung heros, and he is surely among them. Yesterday, I thanked my brother for sending me Donnie's obituary. It's very sad news for all who will miss him -- and I'm sure there are very many -- but undoubtedly he's alive and well in paradise.

Eric, Kelly and family~ we are so sad to hear of your dads passing Eric. He was a very kind, pleasant and funny man and even though we only met him a few times, we were blessed to have met him and shared the short few moments that we did. We will never forget coming to the farm and haying with your dad and you last summer and all the fun and memories we made. Your dad was a very special man. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all in this time of sorrow. May God watch over you all and help guide you through this. Your mom and kids are all in our thoughts as well. God bless you all! <3

Norma, Eric, and Gehring Family. We can not express the hurt in us in losing Donnie. Little Falls has lost a true and wonderful friend. We sang the band concerts several times and the cars just kept on tooting. In my heart I know God welcomed Donnie home as he was a gentleman in every sense of the word. Every time I see a guitar, I will know Donnie is playing one in heaven. He will be singing the old classic country as he and I so loved. He brought so much enjoyment to so many people. Thank you Donnie for the joy you brought to me by just knowing you. I love you dear friend and you will always be in my heart and my prayers. You will never be forgotten.
Much love Shirley and Fred Ashley

Don Gehring. What a terrific person he was! A true gentleman. He was my bus driver for many years on his Sandy Lane route and Don provided me ....well, all of us wonderful children....with friendship, guidance, and when we deserved it, discipline. And we all respected and loved the guy. I enjoyed seeing him at Canal Days and reminiscing about the good old days on the bus and the Mets. My thoughts and prayers and deepest sympathy to all of you on your loss.
