Obituary of Daniel Salanco

LITTLE FALLS – Daniel Salanco, 88 of North Creek Road, Little Falls, NY (Town of Fairfield) passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 19, 2016 at his residence. He was born on October 25, 1927 in Herkimer, NY the son of the late Alexander and Pearl (Kadlyka) Salanco. He was educated at West Canada Valley Schools. On June 11, 1949 he was united in marriage to his wife of 59 years the former Helen Miller at Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls. Mrs. Salanco predeceased him on May 8, 2008. Mr. Salanco was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army. Entering the service on November 7, 1946 he served as a Military Policeman in occupied Japan. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class on April 13, 1948 at Camp Stoneman, CA. A member of the former Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls, he was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed spending time at his hunting camp “Buckhorn” in Noblesboro. He was proud of the “gyrocopter” he and his brother Bud built and flew and always enjoyed visits from his family and friends. Mr. Salanco at onetime owned and operated the family dairy farm in the Town of Fairfield, retiring from farming in 1977. He was last employed until his retirement in the Maintenance Dept. of the former MDS Corp.., Herkimer. He is survived by his son; Darren Salanco and his companion Patty, Little Falls, his daughters; Joanne Aldrich and her husband Ronald and Pearl Scanlon and her husband James, both of Little Falls, his brother; Andrew (Bud) Salanco and his wife Betty, Newport, his grandchildren; Ryan Aldrich, Aaron Aldrich, Ben Scanlon and Jared Scanlon his great grandchildren; Ryder and Raichel and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Nicholas, Alexander and Stephen Salanco and by his sisters; Anna Weber and Mary Wiernicki and Helen Moulton. Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 10:00 am at Mt. View Memorial Gardens, Shells Bush Rd., Town of Little Falls with the Rev. Joseph Famulare officiating and Military Honors will be accorded. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Salanco be considered to the CNY Veteran's Outreach Center, 726 Washington St. Utica, NY 13502. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to RN Brian Dunn of the Rome VA Clinic for his kindness, care and compassion shown to Mr. Salanco over the years.
